Each year, in the U.S, thousands of people are not able to achieve disposition (burial, cremation, etc) via the private funeral industry, whether due to financial reasons, frayed family relations, or no known next-of-kin. The Regional Public Disposition Database tracks the programs that handle the remains of these people in regions across the U.S. These programs can be state-wide, county-wide, or city-wide.
This database was compiled by a group of volunteers who called their local coroners and medical examiner offices, and researched alternative funding options. Since the data was compiled by many different volunteers, the EDA team has edited these entries for clarity and consistency but there may be differences in language and tone across records.
This database reflects the best efforts to collect information that can be difficult to come by and we could use your help to complete it. Please consider lending your assistance in sourcing additional information to complete records or to add new ones. Reach out to info@equitabledisposition.org to get involved.
